DAY 3       Lake Eyasi (you may substitute Lake Natron)

After Breakfast we will head out for Lake Eyasi, which lies on the remote southern border of the escarpment which is part of the Western Rift Valley.  There is little wildlife in the area but the lake is an important source of fish for Arusha.  The lake is near the tribal grounds of the famous bushmen, of the Hadsa Tribe.  These people are the last of the tribe of hunter-gathers and their language is nearly extinct.  We will spend a lot of time with them, observing their culture and accompanying them on their daily chores.  We will explore the lake and later we will have dinner with them.   A unique and very unforgettable  experience.  B,L,D   No hotels here.  Camping only.

DAY  4       Lake Eyasi (Day 2 Lake Natron may be substituted)

In the morning, the Bushmen will take you to the bush area to teach you how to hunt with the local spears used in their hunting trips.  We will be hunting with the tribal men, using the spears.  This will be a unique adventure that will be remembered for life by hunters.  We will spend the night in the Karatu area and have dinner there.  B,L,D

 DAY 5    Serengeti National Park
We will leave after breakfast and head toward the world renowned Serengeti National Park.   We will see numerous animals gathered in their natural feeding areas.  We will take time to stop for once –in-a-lifetime-photographs.  This is a great place to view the flightless ostrich.  We will then pass by Oldavai Gorge and check in at the Naabi Hill park gate.  There is a small natural history museum there where you can take a short break.  We will continue toward our lodging and a welcome dinner as we search for local wildlife and flora along the way.  B, L, D.

DAY  6    Serengeti National Park

Today will be unforgettable.  The great migration of  wildebeest and  accompanied by zebra, and various gazelle and eland is a spectacular event and we will be able to witness it during this day.  This migration is about 800 km long and is populated with over 2.5 million animals.  It is the largest migration on earth, and many other animals are players this unbelievable cycle.  Crocodiles, hyenas, lions, cheetah, and other predators all play an important role.  It is nearly impossible to put into words the sight that will play out before us.  Bring lots of film, binoculars,  maybe a voice recorder to record your comments about this amazing spectacle. The best time to take this safari is between December and July, especially February and March because of the calving of the wildebeest.

DAY 7     Serengeti National Park

We must rise early in order to head out to the Serengeti by 6AM so you can see the animals move into their day near the watering holes, feeding from the steppes, grooming, and exercise.  We will return to the lodging for a waiting breakfast.  Take a little time to be sure you have all your tools (camera, film, lens, video camera, whatever) and we will go out to the unusual geologic plain for the rest of the day, visiting the Western Corridor, returning to lodging for dinner.  B,L,D

DAY 8   Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast, you will have some personal time to use as you choose such as hiking, swimming, shopping in the hotel gift shop, or just reading a good guide book.  Later we will leave the beautiful Serengeti and go to Oldavai Gorge, the place where “Lucy”, the oldest known human to walk erect.  Mary and Louis Leaky discovered her during archeological digs in 1959.  There is a museum at the gorge with information concerning the famous area, still being worked.   You will then head for your lodging in Ngorongoro.  B,L,D

DAY  9   Ngorongoro Crater Floor

We will leave your hotel and drive to the famous Ngorongoro Crater.   Then we will descend to the caldera floor to view the wildlife, including birds.  This unusual park contains all of the big five, as well as exotic birds.  It has been called a virtual “Noah’s Ark” for good reason.  You might be able to complete your animal and bird checklists here.  We will return to your lodging in Arusha following our game drive.  B,L
